Job Applicants Vie for Policewoman Position

On November 19. 1936 a room bursting at the seams with applicants took the exam for the one open Policewoman position on the Minneapolis Police Department. Back then, Policewomen worked exclusively with women and juveniles. Minneapolis Policewomen did not function as patrol officers. They were sworn officers and were required to pass the same physical testing required of male Officers but they carried their guns and badges in their purses and wore plain clothes.
